Well the philosophy behind "Lean Manufacturing" is an approach which delivers the products or services required by a customer on time, with the correct quality, at the correct price and in the correct quantity, whilst achieving profitability & continually reducing costs.
Elements of the Lean philosophy are:

We should also consider how we can organise these steps to be continuous, how we respond to downstream customer demands and how we drive relentless continuous improvement.
The fundamental aim of LEAN is to develop & institutionalise a systematic approach to eliminate waste and focus the attention of the entire company on the value creating processes.
